Get Involved

A group of WWU Human Services students are working towards raising the awareness of sexual assault as well as providing the community with easily-accessible resources and reporting options. Join them in the fight against sexual assault. Feel free to reach out to any project if you want to get involved, have suggestions/ comments, or need more support.

SA Mapping Project

Provides survivors of sexual assault with an opportunity to share their experience, which is then transferred to point on an online map that creates a visual representation of the issue of sexual assault on and around campus. We hope that by bringing attention to the problem, the university administration will make systemic changes to decrease instances of sexual assault and more effectively support survivors. Housing

The Housing Group is working with Western administration in University Residences to change the language on the housing Community Standards to incorporate definitions of sexual misconduct and resources for survivors. The updated language will include Western's commitment to keeping the university safe to live, work, and study, and stress the consequences to perpetuators of sexual assault or any form of sexual misconduct. The housing group focuses on challenging the norms of complacency in university housing towards sexual assault and the greater norm of the university not caring about sexual assault. The Ally Education Club

The Ally Education Group is a collaborative group on campus that works against rape culture. We do preventative education on topics tied to sexual violence through seminars and public events. Hopefully through talking about toxic masculinity, patriarchy, issues of consent, rape culture, and other topics we can create engaging and informative discussions that help reduce sexual violence in the community.

Syllabi SA Disclaimer

Our main goal is to put a disclaimer for sexual assault on all syllabi throughout Western Washington University. We will utilize both administrations of the university and students in the research to raise as much awareness as possible for implementing the syllabi disclaimer throughout the university. Deans of the colleges and professors will act as our top-down force while email lists and group contacts will be the student's bottom-up force so that progress and change can come from the research.

Implementation of the disclaimer on syllabi throughout campus will increase awareness amongst students and faculty on sexual assault.  Request dean of colleges to support sexual assault disclaimer by adding it their college syllabi increase awareness of resources and conduct codes by increasing number of times it is seen and discussed campus-wide. Our project seeks to establish a norm of illuminating Westerns response to SA. This demonstrates that both students and faculty are committed to supporting survivors through the implementation of a disclaimer in syllabi. Shows that SA does happen at WWU, and establishes the seriousness of Western’s response. It also promotes and normalizes the usage of on-campus resources.
